Summertime, and after summertime
Poem by Jessie Liu
Changes were coming your way,
when the endless summertime hadn't gone yet
You had forgotten how inconsolable you were
At that time
It rained on and off all day
You huddled yourself up on the dark-green bench cautiously,
like a poor pussy cat that was abandoned by its heartless master
You lips could hardly frame any words
At that time
It rained on and off all day
You swept silently and sat on the cold step outside the door,
heard nothing but the sound of silence
You were scared beyond words
The sun was gone
The day was done
At that time
Darkness reached its hands out and closed around you,
the night was longer than the day
Changes were coming your way,
when the endless summertime hadn't gone yet
You had forgotten how you desired to be melted by the turbid air,
which almost suffocated you
You had forgotten how you longed to keep away from the wicked world,
which nearly murdered your trueness
You thought you have passed the most horrific customs barrier
All because you had forgotten how inconsolable you were
Nevertheless,
summertime too swiftly flown away
The real season just started
You sunk fast into an ocean full of darkness,
slept deeply, floated on the surface
Darkness reached its hands out and closed around you again,
You knew, again and again
You lost your senses and rode your bike so fast,
when the rain was teeming down
However, as you knew
Whatever you did, you couldn't get away of it at all
——the circle of darkness
The real season just started
After summertime,
the street was like it used to be:
A broken bike, an obsolete bench, and a sad boy
The night was longer than you imagined
The disappointed season is always longer than you imagined
C'est La Vie? (This is life?)
No one, no one could understand you at all.

An Alliance with the Huron Empire
1. What is an alliance? What does this word mean?
Alliance represents a state of two or more countries(groups of people) being allied, to achieve their same aims. By this way, they can support, help, work with each other. And fight with the same enemies. All in all, the groups get together for forming a more strong group, to achieve their purpose.
Great traders themselves, the Hurons navigated the rivers of Central Canada and were very prosperous. They would become the leading source of furs for the French.

A.J.M. Smith
Cedar and jagged fir
uplift sharp barbs
against the gray
and cloud-piled sky;
and in the bay
blown spume and windrift
and thin, bitter spray
snap
at the whirling sky;
and the pine trees
lean one way.
A wild duck calls
to her mate,
and ragged
and passionate tones
stagger and fall,
and recover,
and stagger and fall,
on these stones -
are lost
in the lapping of water
on smooth, flat stones.
This is a beauty
of dissonance,
this resonance
of stony strand,
this smoky cry
curled over a black pine
like a broken
and wind-battered branch
when the wind
bends the tops of the pine
like a broken
and wind-battered branch
when the wind
bends the tops of the pines
and curdles the sky
from the north.
This is the beauty
of strength
broken by strength
and still strong

Thank You!
I has been afflicted with painful right foot for one month!!T_T
The doctor said that my bone was okay, but there was something wrong with my tendon, so that he told me not to take too much exercise, even walking.
However, I have to climb to flour 4, across a lot of streets, take subway and take bus everyday! The painful tendon can not afford such too much work. It results in a great sore inside of my right feet, not all the time, but a specific time. When it was hurting, It made me shed tears..Rena knows that I cry hardly ever in daily life..This time, I was defeated by the pain completely.
But I still can walk like normal persons because my bone is okay. So, you know, when I said my right feet was too hurt, nobody believed me!! What a tradegy! They only looked at the surface and no one would see I exclaimed inside of my heart. I could not find any appropriate words to describe how hurt it was, so that no one would understand me! Even Mrs.Yang, she said,"Are you tell a lie? I saw you walk quickly and comfortable like others." I was so sad, how can her said I told a lie??...
Yesterday, when I went to the computer lab, I felt the pain again and again, but I can't tell anybody. Who can believe me? I seat in front of my computer and kept shedding tears because of the pain. I came out in cold sweat.. Finally, I decided to go to the school clinic alone for asking some pain killer.
When I came out the building two, Jessica chased me. I was accompanied with her to the clinic and she took care of me all the time until lunch time! I deeply appreciated her!!! Kind Jessica, gave me hands, gave me power and made me warm..
I always think that Jessica is helping me all the time from the first day I met her, not only on study but also in daily life. Just like today, she helped again..
I really wanna say: Thank U!!Jessica!!^ ^
Anyway, I will take care of myself!!
Champlain Cotinues.
1. Find a map of the St. Lawrence River. Explain what you see in the picture in 3-5 sentences.
picture from:
encarta.msn.com/.../
I heard of that the St. Lawrence River flows about 1300 km (about 800 mi) . The picture shows that it is from Lake Ontario to the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The river forms the border between New York and Ontario and between Ontario and Quebec before finishing its course entirely in Quebec. Also, it is the most important commercial river in Canada.
2. Find a photograph of the St. Lawrence River you like. Explain what you see in the picture in 3-5 sentences.
picture from: www.hickerphoto.com/
The picture shows a part of the St. Lawrence River. The river does not have a regular shape, and there are some small lands in its surface. The lands are being developed. The sun is rising from the horizon to light the brand new day of St. Lawrence River. A tree is silhouetted in the light recreated by the sunset on the blanks of the river. The waves start to break against the rocks. It shows us a wonderful sight.
3. Why did Champlain choose to use a river for transportation? Explain in 3-5 sentences.
Because of Champlain, the St. Lawrence became the most commercial river in Canada. However, why did Champlain choose to use a river for transportation?Because the St. Lawrence River originates at the outflow of Lake Ontario between a lot of cities so that it is a very convenient place for transporting. The ships with cargoes like to pass the river safety and conveniently. At that time, there were not any planes or trains to use, and it was too tired to ride horses. So, Champlain choose to use a river for transportation because it is fast and low-cost.
4. Find a picture of Champlain's habitation at Quebec. Explain what you see in 5-8 sentences.
picture from:www.cbc.ca/.../
Champlain's habitation at Quebec consisted of three clustered buildings and two of them were high. Around the buildings there was a continuous wall above the ground floor forming an exterior gallery for defense. It seemed like it was a really gigantic building. Moreover, there was a moat around Champlain's habitation, it was really important for the habitation. (explain in bonus questions.) Perhaps Champlain and his families were satisfied with their beautiful habitation.
5. The fort was a natural fort because Quebec had towering cliffs.
a.Find a picture of towering cliffs in Quebec. Search in Google using "Quebec and towering cliffs".
picture from:www.canada-photos.com/
b. Why are the cliffs a natural fort? Explain in 3-5 sentences.
A cliff is a significant vertical, or near vertical, rock exposure. It is common in coasts and along rivers, such as Quebec, which has an abundant of rivers. Sometimes, the cliffs can resist the horrible flood, mud-rock flood... For example, when the flood is coming, people can stand in the highest point of the cliff for protecting themselves temporally.
6. What did you learn today? Explain in 5-8 sentences.
Firstly, I learned a lot of new word that I had never seen before, such as fort, habitation and moat. These words are important for the following provincial exam might. Then, I gained lots of interesting knowledge about Champlain's life, just like his habitation and its location. His habitation is really quaint and gigantic. What's more, the pictures show me the beautiful landscape of Canada again. I realized that geography is really important for our daily life thought it is still boring...
Bonus
1. There is a moat around Champlain's habitation. Why is that important?
A moat is a wide water-filled ditch surrounding a fortified place, such as Champlain's habitation.
It can provide a preliminary line of defense.
